Alexander Kraft van Ermel (september 1990) heeft als kleinzoon van de gevierde Curaçaose componist Wim Statius Muller altijd een bijzondere band gehad met Antilliaanse muziek. Hij had het voorrecht om van jongs af aan les te krijgen van zijn grootvader op Curaçao.
In januari 2022 was Alexander te bewonderen in Cas di Cultura met werken van Chopin en Wim Statius Muller (zijn opa). In september is hij terug op ons eiland en treedt hij op in Cas di Cultura met een nieuw concert.
Deze keer met werken van Ludwig van Beethoven; de Waldstein en Appasionata sonates.
De Waldstein en Appassionata sonates zijn niet alleen een paar van de populairste sonates uit de 32 die hij heeft geschreven, maar om de Duitse romantici uit de 19de eeuw te citeren, zijn de twee monumentale werken die de klassieke periode afsluiten en de romantiek inluiden. Dit zijn stukken die naast zijn tijdgenoten als lichtjaren vooruitlopend en avant garde in durf uitblinken.
De Waldstein heeft harmonische veranderingen die John Coltrane 250 jaar later in Giant Steps gebruikt en de Appassionata geeft de vrijheid en diepte die nodig is om de emotionele expressie die voorheen ontbrak.

As the grandson of the celebrated Curaçao composer Wim Statius Muller, Alexander Kraft van Ermel (September 1990) has always had a special bond with Antillean music. He had the privilege of being taught by his grandfather in Curaçao from an early age.
In January 2022 Alexander could be admired in Cas di Cultura with works by Chopin and Wim Statius Muller (his grandfather). In September he will be back on our island and will perform at Cas di Cultura with a new concert.

The Waldstein and Appassionata sonatas are not only some of the most popular of the 32 sonatas he has written, but to quote the German Romantics of the 19th century, the two monumental works conclude the Classical period and usher in Romanticism. These are pieces that stand out in daring alongside their contemporaries as light years ahead and avant-garde.
The Waldstein has harmonic changes that John Coltrane uses 250 years later in Giant Steps and the Appassionata gives the freedom and depth needed to give the emotional expression that was previously lacking.
